The Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing (MGH/SON) Alumnae Association Education Scholarship

The Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association Education Scholarship provides financial assistance to promote a career in nursing for the entry level (Associate's Degree level or Bachelor's Degree level) student in an accredited Maryland nursing program or the continuing education for the Maryland licensed registered nurse in a RN to BSN or MSN nursing education program in Maryland. The recipient will demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, and leadership qualities (RN to BSN or MSN students). The scholarship is in the amount of $500.00. The Scholarship Committee of the Nursing Foundation of Maryland (NFM) will review the applications and select a recipient for the approval by the MGH/SON Alumnae Association Board of Directors.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. The applicant must be a student who has completed all their pre-requisites in an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program in Maryland.
OR
The applicant must be a Maryland licensed RN who is attending an accredited RN to BSN completion program or a MSN program in Maryland.
a) The student must be a matriculated student in the fall semester of the year the award is given.
b) The ADN or BSN student must be studying in a degree completion program.
c) The RN to BSN completion student must be studying in a degree completion program.
d) The MSN student must be studying in a degree completion program.
2. The applicant must:
a) Be in good academic standing (minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0)
b) Demonstrate financial need
c) Demonstrate leadership qualities (RN to BSN or MSN student)
3. The applicant must complete the official Nursing Foundation of Maryland, Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing (MGH/SON) Alumnae Association Education Scholarship application form and submit it to the Nursing Foundation of Maryland, Inc. The form is available at www.marylandrn.org or by calling 410-944-5800.
4. The scholarship recipient must be able to attend the Awards Banquet at the Maryland Nurses Association Annual Convention on Friday, October 8, 2010. The recipient will be a guest of the Nursing Foundation at the Awards Banquet.
Requirements
1. The official application form (or facsimile) must be used.
2. The application must be in the NFM office by close of business on September 15, 2010. It may be mailed or faxed.
3. The application must be accompanied by:
a) An official transcript of grades.
b) A copy of an acceptance letter into an accredited ADN, BSN, or MSN program in Maryland and proof of current enrollment.
c) A letter of introduction stating why you believe the scholarship is deserved/needed, your reasons for choosing nursing as a career, your goal(s) in nursing, and if an RN to BSN or MSN student, your leadership qualities.
d) Two letters of reference from professional contacts who can address your qualities for a nursing career (and leadership qualities for the RN to BSN or MSN student). One letter must be from a nursing faculty person or a nursing supervisor (for the RN to BSN or MSN student).
