Next Step Scholarship for Transfer Students

Emerson College is located Boston Massachusetts. The Next Step Scholarship offers transfer applicants from select community colleges the opportunity to receive a half-tuition credit toward the cost of full-time matriculation. Currently, students who matriculate at Montgomery College are eligible.

Students must have earned an associate's degree from Montgomery College (or have an associate's degree by the time they matriculate at Emerson) and have a 3.2 GPA to apply. Students who apply for this scholarship must plan to enroll full-time at Emerson and complete their degree in five or fewer semesters. To continue to receive this scholarship at Emerson, a 3.0 GPA must be maintained while you are enrolled.

A separate Next Step Scholarship application must be submitted in addition to your admission application in order to be considered for this scholarship. The Next Step Scholarship is only offered to applicants for fall enrollment.

Merit Scholarships for Transfer Students

UMBC offers competitive merit scholarships for incoming community college transfer students. The Academic Achievement Award for Transfers and the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Award are awarded to community college transfers on the basis of academic accomplishment.

Eligibility Criteria:
For the Academic Achievement Award

3.5 minimum cumulative GPA (based on entire college academic history, 3.7 or above to be most competitive)

Completion of 35 or more credits at the time of application

For the Phi Theta Kappa Award

Announces Award for Associate Degree Holders

Award:

$1,250 Per Semester Available for Students With 3.0 GPAs
Graduates of Maryland community colleges may now be able to attend Frostburg State University at a significant discount, following the establishment of the FSU Associate Degree Scholars Award.

The award is available to students who graduated from any Maryland community college, as well as Potomac State College of West Virginia University, with an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or Associate of Arts in Teaching degree with a cumulative 3.0 grade point average. Certain Associate of Applied Science degrees may qualify as well.

The award is worth $1,250 per semester and will be awarded for a total of four semesters if the student enrolls full-time and maintains a 3.0 GPA.

“We know that community college graduates tend to be highly motivated to complete their bachelor’s degree and even go on to graduate school,” said FSU President Jonathan Gibralter. “This scholars program removes one of the obstacles during difficult economic times by assisting with tuition.”
“Community college graduates are some of our best students. Their success here, in and out of the classroom, is truly outstanding,” said Wray Blair, associate vice president for Enrollment Management at FSU. “We are all experiencing a challenging economy, and this award should make it easier for these students to complete their degree from FSU and minimize the amount of student loan debt that they will incur.”

The aim of the award is to bring the tuition costs for a student’s final two years of a bachelor’s degree closer to that of a community college. For Maryland students, that would translate to a 47% discount from FSU’s 2011-2012 in-state tuition rate of $2,652 per semester. For out-of-state students, it would be a 16 % discount over the out-of-state rates, except for those in contiguous counties (Somerset, Bedford, Fulton, Franklin and Adams counties in Pennsylvania; Grant, Mineral, Hampshire, Morgan, Berkeley and Jefferson counties in West Virginia; and Loudoun County in Virginia), where students already receive discounted tuition; this award would provide a 22 percent discount over the contiguous county rate.

Students should still apply for all applicable scholarships and grants and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1 of every year to help cover the remaining educational costs. For students with significant financial need, additional financial aid opportunities may be available as well, including scholarships through the FSU Foundation.

For students who have completed 30 credit hours (excluding remedial or developmental courses) or more of college level work, there are three different merit based scholarships. All three scholarships are guaranteed as long as the scholarship requirements are met!

Transfer Scholarship (GPA: 3.0-3.49)
If the student transfers with a GPA between a 3.0 and a 3.49 they qualify for a USD 2,500 out of state tuition waiver and a USD 500 stipend per year.

Transfer Scholarship (GPA: 3.5-3.69)
If the student transfers with a GPA between a 3.5 and a 3.69 they qualify for a USD 5,000 out of state tuition waiver and a USD 500 stipend per year.

Transfer Scholarship (GPA: 3.7-4.00)
If the students transfers with a GPA above 3.7 they qualify for a USD 10,000 out of state tuition waiver and will receive a USD 500 stipend per year.

MC ACCESS Engineering Scholarship

The Science, Engineering and Mathematics (SEM) Area was awarded a competitive, four-year, $600,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) for "ACCESS Engineering" (Achieving Community College Excellence, Success, and Scholarship in Engineering).

Award:
There are a limited number of scholarships. The selection process is competitive and the award will be based on the amount of financial need, not to exceed $3,200 per year. Applications are now available for fall 2011 scholarship consideration. The deadline to submit all required materials is June 15, 2011. No late applications will be considered. Applicants will receive an email confirmation within 2 days of application submittal.

Requirements:
According to NSF guidelines, ACCESS Engineering scholarship requirements:

AFCEA DC Scholarship Program

To promote higher education, the Washington Chapter AFCEA DC will award college scholarships to eligible applicants in the Washington Metro Council of Governments [COG] area in June 2011. Since May 1989 $1,940,500 has been committed to 299 students in the Metro area from 100 high schools entering 66 U.S. colleges. Our $4,000 one year scholarship program is open to students leaving two-year community colleges to attend four year degree granting programs. Our fields of study are the C4I-related fields of electrical, computer, chemical, aerospace or systems engineering; electronics; mathematics; computer science; physics; science or mathematics education; technology management; or management information systems. Winning selection is based on Academic Achievement, School Activities, Community/Civic Activities, Part- Time Work, Financial Need [other factors count more] and Letters of Recommendation.

Planning to transfer to a Maryland Public

4-yr college or university Fall 2011?

The Regents Scholarships will provide financial assistance for the full cost of in-state tuition and mandatory fees as well as living expenses(comparable to on-campus room and board) and a book stipend for students attending on a full-time basis. The Regents Scholarship for the part-time student will provide funding for tuition and mandatory fees as well as a modest stipend for books and educational supplies. The partial scholarships will provide financial support ranging from $2500-3500 per year for students demonstrating need. Any student nominated for a Regents Scholarship will automatically be included in the review for the partial scholarships. By maintaining the appropriate academic standing, the students may receive this generous support for a total of four semesters (or eight semesters for the part-time student).

Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Scholarship

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is a premier global engineering organization with a mission “to promote and facilitate engineering support for national security by developing and enhancing relationships and competencies among uniformed services, public and private sector engineers, and related professionals”. A primary means to fulfilling this mission is to encourage talented students to pursue careers in engineering, architecture, and related fields.

The Fort Detrick Post of SAME supports the mission by providing assistance to deserving students pursuing a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, or related science, planning, and construction fields at local colleges and universities. Scholarship applications will be reviewed in April and awards will be announced in May.

Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
• United States citizen;
• Full-time undergraduate student (freshman through junior) at an accredited university or college (including 2-year community colleges), preferably in the Frederick / Baltimore / Washington, DC area; and
• Pursuing a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, or related science, planning, or construction fields.

AFCEA NOVA Scholarship -The Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association, Northern Virginia Chapter, (AFCEA NOVA) annually awards a significant number of merit-based scholarship grants to qualified students who are pursuing degrees or advanced training in various technical fields such as:

Information Technology / Computer Science / Systems
Engineering
Mathematics
Natural/Physical sciences
And other technology-related fields supportive of our National Security.

All students who have been accepted to college or are attending college now and are permanent residents of the Greater Washington area are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate is accepting scholarship applications for the 2011 academic year.

NASA expects to award 20 undergraduate scholarships to students in aeronautics or related fields. Undergraduate students entering their second year of study will receive up to $15,000 per year for two years and the opportunity to receive a $10,000 stipend by interning at a NASA research center during the summer.

"We want more students to pursue careers in aeronautics," said Jaiwon Shin, associate administrator for the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "By offering these scholarships, we are extending to students not just an opportunity to become familiar with NASA's research, but also an extra dose of inspiration. Scholarships are an excellent way for us to attract talented young innovators to our work force."

Students who have not committed to a specific academic institution or program still may apply. However, if accepted, they must be admitted by fall 2011 into a suitable aeronautical engineering program or related field of study at an accredited U.S. university. All applicants must be U.S. citizens. Scholarship money may be used for tuition and other school-related expenses.

NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate conducts cutting-edge, fundamental and integrated systems research in traditional and emerging disciplines. The Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association Education Scholarship provides financial assistance to promote a career in nursing for the entry level (Associate's Degree level or Bachelor's Degree level) student in an accredited Maryland nursing program or the continuing education for the Maryland licensed registered nurse in a RN to BSN or MSN nursing education program in Maryland. The recipient will demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, and leadership qualities (RN to BSN or MSN students). The scholarship is in the amount of $500.00. The Scholarship Committee of the Nursing Foundation of Maryland (NFM) will review the applications and select a recipient for the approval by the MGH/SON Alumnae Association Board of Directors.

Eligibility Criteria:
1. The applicant must be a student who has completed all their pre-requisites in an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program in Maryland.

The Nursing Foundation of Maryland (NFM) is seeking applications for their 2010 Nursing Scholarships, awarded to those baccalaureate nursing students demonstrating scholarship, commitment and potential for leadership in the practice of nursing. The Foundation will award up to four scholarships not to exceed $2,000 each. Applicants may be entry-level baccalaureate nursing students, or Registered Nurses with an Associate Degree who are completing a baccalaureate degree in nursing.

Applicants must meet the following criteria of eligibility:
*Currently accepted or enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate nursing education program in Maryland
*Resident of Maryland
*Scheduled to receive a baccalaureate degree in nursing within the 2010-2011 academic year
*GPA of 3.0 our of 4.0 or higher in prior college coursework
*Demonstrate involvement in community service

The Ruth Hans Scholarship promotes lifelong learning and best practices in nursing by awarding an education scholarship to a Baccalaureate nursing student in Maryland. Engaging Engineers in Scholarship (EES)

The EES Fellows program immerses students in a supportive environment designed to enhance their experience while pursing an engineering degree. This scholarship program creates opportunities to network with peers, mentors and role models, while developing technical and professional skills. Students are required to enroll in a one-credit seminar each semester during their first year of study. The seminars focus on success strategies in engineering and career development. Freshmen EES Fellows benefit from taking first year courses critical for success in engineering, such as mathematics, chemistry and introduction to engineering, as a group. EES Fellow scholarships are renewable for one year. A variety of workshops will be offered during the second year to enable EES Fellows to find additional scholarship funds, co-op/internship employment and/or research experiences. This scholarship program is funded through the National Science Foundation S-STEM program (DUE-0850096).

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) will award 10 scholarships to high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll, or to students who are already enrolled, in a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, vocational or technical school during the 2010-11 academic year. The Louis Stokes Health Scholars program seeks to increase the number of qualified, yet underrepresented, college students entering the health workforce. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate an interest to work in underserved communities. Students currently attending two-year institutions are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal U.S. residents who have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must also be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, vocational or technical school. The anticipated degree must be in a subject that will lead to a career in a health field. The ideal candidate is be a student at a two-year institution who plans to complete a four-year degree and seek work in an underserved community. USA Funds® will award up to $1 million in scholarships to students with economic need through USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships®.

Eligibility

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships are open to high school seniors, currently enrolled college or professional degree students or incoming college or professional degree students who:
Plan to enroll or are enrolled in full- or half-time undergraduate or full-time graduate or professional degree coursework at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school.
Have an annual adjusted gross family income of $35,000 or less, as documented on a 2009 federal 1040 income tax return on which the applicant is claimed as a federal tax exemption.
Are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens. Students studying in the U.S. on an F1 visa are not eligible. Eligible noncitizens must be permanent U.S. resident aliens with a Green Card, or refugees with a Departure Record (Form I-94) from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services showing one of the following designations:
Refugee.
Asylum granted.
Alien paroled into the U.S. for at least one year.
Alien granted a stay of deportation due to fear of persecution on account of race, religion or political opinion.
Conditional entrant (if I-94 was issued before April 1980).• Are not currently in default on a federal education loan.

Up to 50 percent of the scholarship awards will be targeted to applicants who are members of an ethnic minority group or have a documented physical disability. Ethnic minority groups are defined as follows:

Alaskan Native/American Indian.
Asian.
Black/African-American.
Hispanic or Latino.
Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander.

Awards:

The program will award scholarships of $1,500. The scholarships are non-renewable, but students may reapply in subsequent years, as long as their cumulative awards under the program do not exceed $6,000.

Make Yourself an Attractive Candidate for Scholarships

Merit scholarships are typically awarded on the basis of academic, athletic or artistic merit, in addition to special interests. Some merit scholarships also consider financial need, but rewarding talent is the primary objective. MANY, many scholarships are awarded to students who have "demonstrated academic excellence and have leadership qualities." So how do you get there?

Get involved in activities! Join student clubs, take on leadership roles, look into internships, community service, volunteer work... Look for ideas @ your campus's Office of Student Life.
Take challenging courses! Honors classes (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 required) allow you to demonstrate your academic ability and cultivate relationships with professors. In regular classes, get to know your professors. They are the people who will write letters of recommendation on your behalf. Choose classes with the assistance of an MC counselor - don't self advise!
Look at small, private colleges and universities in addition to state schools. Small, private schools often offer more generous awards to students than do state schools.
Consider other specialized schools - women's colleges and historically black colleges and universities have additional opportunities.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Transfer Scholarships

Montgomery College students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society are eligible to participate in many transfer scholarship programs. Students are invited to join PTK each semester based on credits earned and grade point averages. Contact the PTK Adviser on your campus through the Office of Student Life.

* The All-USA Community College Academic Team program annually selects 20 students to the national team, each receiving a $2,500 stipend and medallion as recognition as an outstanding two-year college student. * The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has announced the establishment of the Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team program, providing up to $350,000 in stipends. Fifty students will be named Gold Scholars, receiving $1,500, 50 students will be named Silver Scholars, receiving $1,250, and 50 students will be named Bronze Scholars, receiving $1,000. A state may have multiple Gold, Silver or Bronze Scholars. All scholars will also receive special medallions and will be listed in an April issue of the USA TODAY newspaper. Finally, an additional 150 national finalists will be selected from multiple states, each receiving a $1,000 stipend. Phi Theta Kappa sponsors 37 All-State Academic Team Recognition ceremonies, during which stipends, scholarships and special recognitions are presented to All-State Team winners.

* The top scoring student (based on scores received in the All-USA competition) from each of the 50 states will be named a New Century Scholar and will receive a $2,000 stipend. New Century Scholars will be presented at the AACC Convention. In addition, one student from a chapter in Canada and one student from a chapter outside of the United States will be named a New Century Scholar. The New Century Scholars program is sponsored annually by the American Association of Community Colleges, The Coca-Cola Foundation, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, and Phi Theta Kappa. http://www.ptk.org/schol/aaat/newcent.htm

* Students nominated to the Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team are automatically named to the All-State Academic Team in 37 participating states. All-State members receive special recognition including medallions, certificates and oftentimes stipends and scholarships.

* The Frank Lanza Memorial Scholarship awards scholarships to students currently enrolled in associate degree programs in registered nursing, respiratory care and emergency medical services. * Leaders of Promise/GEICO Business Student Scholarship is the Society's first scholarship program available to members to be used during the time they are enrolled in their community colleges. Up to 30 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded based on applications submitted by members. * The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation grants The Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships, the most generous scholarships ever offered to graduating community college students. http://www.jkcf.org/scholarships/undergraduate-transfer-scholarships/ The scholarship awards provide funding for tuition, room and board, books and other required fees for the remainder of the Jack Kent Cooke Scholar's bachelor's degree, generally two years. Candidates for this scholarship must be nominated by their community college in order to apply. The maximum available per student is $30,000 per year. * Nota Bene, Phi Theta Kappa's literary honors anthology, annually publishes outstanding entries submitted by Phi Theta Kappa students. The author of the most outstanding submission will be presented with the Citation Scholarship, an award of $1,000. Four manuscripts will be chosen to receive Reynolds Scholarships, awards of $500 each. Find out more.

A variety of individual scholarships are availabe to students who attend the Universities at Shady Grove. In addition to federal and state grants awarded on the basis of financial need, various private scholarships are available for students at USG as provided by local businesses, foundations, community organizations and individual donors. While students are encouraged to apply for any scholarship (as available nationwide) for which they qualify, the following is a listing of awards designated specifically for students enrolled in programs at USG.

Transfer Academic Excellence Scholarships UM

The University of Maryland offers two year scholarships to outstanding students transferring from Maryland community colleges. To be eligible, students must have completed 56 or more credits or have an Associates of Arts degree and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. The award covers in-state tuition for two years of undergraduate study. Candidate nomination forms are available in late December from the UM Undergraduate Admissions Office or from community college advisers. The deadline for receipt of application, official transcripts, and scholarship materials is March 1st. Students who are selected for an interview will be notified towards the end of April and final decisions will be released in mid May.
